Something that really characterises Havana is its animated cultural life. Cuban artistic tradition has been outstanding. Arts in the island have developed and flourished thanks to excellent creators in all manifestations of arts. The most demanding and refined tastes are satisfied at Havana’s big theatres. The Teatro Nacional de Cuba (Paseo and 39 St, Vedado has two magnificent halls: the Sala Covarrubias for dance and theatre shows and the Sala Avellaneda used for concerts by the National Symphonic Orchestra and for Ballet. This spot is preferred by foreign companies which come to the island propitiating cultural exchange. The Teatro García Lorca is the seat of the Alicia Alonso National Ballet Company, it is the luxurious house of the international ballet festivals which are celebrated in Havana with great success. The Teatro Karl Marx (1st Avenue, Miramar) has a splendid concert hall; opening and closing ceremonies of the Latin-American Film Festival and other international celebratiions are usually held here. The Teatro Amadeo Roldan (512 Calzada, Vedado), recently reopened, will be permanent seat for the National Symphonic Orchestra, giving concerts here every weekend. Other cultural facilities, where you can enjoy theatre plays are: Teatro Hubert de Blanck (Calzada #654, Vedado.), Teatro Mella (Línea #657, Vedado.), Cine-Teatro Trianón (Línea #706, Vedado), Teatro Buendía (Loma and 39, Nuevo Vedado. ) and the Teatro Fausto (Paseo del Prado and Colón), among others. There is a varied cultural movement in the island’s capital every weekend, offering visitors the possibility of encountering the more genuine and important manifestations of arts in the biggest of the Antilles.
